Depends on the butt, I’ve seen some nice algorithms.
Mama told me not to come.
She said, that ain’t the way to have fun.
Depends on the butt, I’ve seen some nice algorithms.
Did the same in my area. The roads are good, but the businesses are either missing or outdated. I probably added 100 over the last few months.
It’s kinds fun! When I go out, I check OM and see what’s missing, take some pictures, and then go edit a bunch of stuff that night. It doesn’t take long, and I feel like it’s worth my time.
Mine is okay, but maybe I just have high standards. I’m using redis and postgresql, so I’m probably about as optimized as I can be. Page loads in like 2-3s, but I wish it was faster.
If there was an alternative to Nextcloud that could replace Google Docs and wasn’t written in PHP, I’d switch. I don’t need much, I just want to access documents and spreadsheets in the browser.
But Nextcloud is good enough.
I’d take $5M of government funding and make similar progress. Yo DOGE, call me.
I want this, but with high quality news sources. And then sort such that topics are distributed.
Information > misinformation
Butt nicotine? What kind of weird stuff you into?
Corporations can raise prices however they want because there’s no law against it. There may be for declared emergencies (e.g. hurricane or something), but other than that, prices are kept in check by market forces. If supply dips, prices go up to keep some inventory on the shelves, and if supply exceeds demand, prices will drop to move inventory. That’s how it works, regardless of who controls the White House.
and is just about to be completely extinguished in the US by the current administration
That’s alarmist BS. The President cannot change the law without a bill passed by Congress, so the next President can reverse whatever EOs make it past judicial review. The GOP has a narrow majority in Congress, so that’s going to put a damper on what Trump can do long term.
Yes, Trump can cause a lot of damage, and that’s likely to happen, but that damage can be reversed. The critical bit here is Congress, and we’ll have midterms to determine whether people like the direction the GOP is taking or they want something different. I think a likely outcome is that inflation goes up (if Trump makes good on tariff threats), the Fed tightens monetary policy, and Trump is forced to either lighten up or lose the midterms. It’s also likely that Trump is bluffing and just looking for some meaningless concessions so he can claim a win. We’ll see. But I highly doubt we’ll see systemic change in any meaningful way.
Yup, I’ll be throwing them a donation this year. They provide a wonderful service.
No worries. Hopefully you have things sorted.
Usually the DHCP server is the same as the router, so if the router is offline, you can’t access it anyway. Right?
Or are you saying you’d plug in directly with a patch cable?
Could you explain more about your network setup?
2 is usually install, using a live version of Linux kinda sucks.
So you’re saying you don’t like the choice in Linux? On a given distro, there’s usually one right way and maybe 2 other ways. Learn the right way for your setup and you’re good.
If you’re using Network Manager, do it the Network Manager way. If you’re using Debian as a server, do it the Debian way (`/etc/network/interfaces). If you’re using SUSE, do it the SUSE way (YaST).
If you don’t want to deal with it, use DHCP (usually default) and set the static lease on your router using the MAC address. That’s better anyway because you can change all of your static leases in one spot if you ever need to.
How you set it can vary depending on what you’re running. Linux is all about choice, and choice means multiple ways to do a thing. Places to look:
raspi-config
- catchall CLI tool on Raspbian, not sure if it covers both of the following, but it’s a good option to start withBut you could also have installed something different. If you post your OS and version and what you’re running on it, I can give better advice.
That said, normal networking rules apply:
At least set it outside your DHCP range.
I have my DHCP set to use from .100
and up, and my static addressee are in the .1-99
range.
I still set it through my router so I have a place to look up which one is which (they’re piling up), but they’re all in that range.
I recommend setting up whatever your alternative is a little before committing to ease the transition a bit. It’s different, and it’s good to fall back to something else for a bit if you get frustrated.
On my phone, I have two games:
The first is available on F-Droid, not sure about other stores, and the second is probably available everywhere (I got it on Google Play).
I, too, got tired of sifting through ad-riddled BS and just didn’t play games on my phone for years.
Exactly. A DIY router is fine, don’t DIY the AP.
Yeah, flash memory doesn’t store well, hence the recommendation to keep checking on it. This article claims 10 years, but I think checking on it every year or two is a good idea.
And yeah, M-Disk looks like a good option, especially if you never need to read from it. I would make multiple copies though, because disks break, get lost, etc. And get an extra drive so your successors don’t need to go find one; people are lazy and you want as few obstacles to them using it as possible.
I personally don’t like using optical media because players can be finicky and storage can be annoying. But it’s probably a good solution for your stated needs.
And self hosting can also be cheaper, unless you’re a huge consumer of the service. How many people watch enough Netflix to make the sub cheaper than buying the media instead? We cancelled Disney Plus and bought the few series they like and we’ve already saved money.
Economies of scale are absolutely a thing, but I think there’s a sweet spot where self hosting can be cheaper for a lot of people.
