My older car (2012 Mazda 3) didn’t have a touch screen. I replaced the radio with a touch screen Pioneer one that supports Android Auto. I’d definitely recommend doing that! It’s nice having Google Maps on an older car. The third-party radios tend to be better than the OEM ones (they have to be, otherwise nobody would buy them) and I don’t think Pioneer does data collection of any sort.

How is it not AI? Just because it’s not AGI doesn’t mean it’s not AI. AI encompasses a lot of things.

I just wish Mazda had a good EV. Their EVs just aren’t that good at the moment. I leased a BMW iX a few months ago, but my old car (which I still have) is a 2012 Mazda 3. Love the EV experience and I don’t think I’ll buy a gas powered car ever again.

Most cars have a SIM card with a very basic data/phone service. In many jurisdictions, it’s a legal requirement for cars to have a button to call emergency services, so they need phone connectivity for that. It’s also used for software updates, map updates, and of course, data collection.

They really do hide the final price until the last second when you’re most committed.

This was going to be made illegal in California, but restaurants got an exception added to the law at the last minute. It’s illegal in other industries now though - for example, Ticketmaster’s listed/advertised prices in California have to include all fees.

I don’t order delivery, but I do order pickup, and I like when restaurants have online ordering using the same system they use in the restaurant. It’s common with restaurants that use modern PoS systems like Toasttab. Prices are the same as if you order in person, since they don’t have to also pay another third-party (DoorDash, etc).

And the Lieferando fees are hidden (paid by the restaurants).

Restaurants pay DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc. too - it costs them 30% of the order price. So the restaurant pays a lot, and the customer also pays a lot. I don’t understand how people are comfortable with this business model.

It’s frustrating when apps apply Linux-specific behavior to other platforms. No windows apps should be just throwing hidden folders into the user directory!

A lot of apps mess up local vs roaming AppData too. Roaming is for things that would make sense in a roaming profile (ie to sync to other systems) whereas local is for things that should only exist on this system (caches, machine-specific configs, etc)

Looks like an Aqara leak sensor. Zigbee - you generally won’t find Z-wave devices for this cheap. They were around US$15 on Amazon when I last bought some in 2023, and a dollar or two cheaper on Aliexpress.

Pretty basic construction. There’s two exposed terminals at the bottom, and when they connect electrically, it alerts. If you’re clever, they can be used for a bunch of things, not just leak sensing (eg https://www.homeautomationguy.io/blog/making-my-own-bed-sensor).
