My first kid only got premium organic kale crackers for snacks.

My second kid is allowed to eat anything they find, including on the floor, within reason.

First kid had to be dressed nice, for fear others would judge me.

Second kid, I know everyone is judging me, but this is an important developmental moment happening, and we’re not stopping for socks.

As it is significant risk for me to install different OS

I used to be really anxious about it, but after installing GrapheneOS or LineageOS on many devices (I started doing it for friends who asked), they’re all humming along nicely

The way I got comfortable enough to do the first one was upgrading my previous phone right after replacing it. Of course I found that the older phone running free software was more responsive and had better battery life. (Funny how not running crapware helps!)

Experiencing that difference was enough to tempt me to put a cleaner operating system on all my new phones immediately, going forward.

In the meantime, there’s strong evidence that getting rid of random apps substantially improves privacy. May as well go for it.

But, of course, getting rid of Google apps is still the elephant in the privacy nightmare room until it’s done.

Lineage with microG is fine for most people

As a die hard paranoid security guru, I want to highlight your point here.

I adore GrapheneOS, but Lineage can be a fast and easy switch for a solid 80% or 90% improvement in privacy for most people.

Holy cow. They’ve done the impossible - they’ve found a way to make a Dodge into a shittier vehicle. I am awestruck.

I want to honor this brilliant reply with a humorous “yes and” reply.

As an aside, I haven’t quite gotten used to the meta-game strategy in anarchy chess, but I felt pretty good about the Mario Kart rainbow road bits.

That sounds like it could have something to it. But I wonder - how would the people seize the means of production?

I’ve legitimately been to a sports game where the game would have ended better if this had happened. It was the worst team I’ve ever seen play. It was epic.

Another bonus: Many very good open source games can be added to SteamDeck by:

1. Boot to desktop.
2. Search the software center.
3. Click install.
4. Right-click the new game icon, and click “add to Steam”
5. Reboot to Steam mode and enjoy.

Some suggestions: Luanti, Empty Epsilon, UnCiv, Tux Racer, most retro emulators.

I hope GIMP is able to do the same!

That would be amazing. Gimp hating user design has been a joke punchline for so long, I can’t even say where I would start fixing it.
