In my state (tenant laws are good here) we could withhold rent (ideally in a seperate bank account) until key things are fixed like an elevator.

Get a lawyer and organize rent withholding for the entire building. That’ll get them to fix the elevator right quick.

Also make it durable. Thicker. Heavier. I’m going to slap a case on it otherwise
