Ahh nice, I like it
Ahh nice, I like it
Dumb phones can play music just fine, mine has a 64GB SD card in it, not sure about 5G as it’s still fairly new but can easily get one that use 4G.
For everything else I never used a phone for that anyway. Online banking on PC, IoT can get the fuck off my network and it does have some kind of camera on it but why would I really need one
Yeah I now only use the dumb phone on a day to day.
How do they get malware, you don’t even connect them to the internet
At least you had a backup
I think 4G is capable of enough speed, but doesn’t always deliver even close to it. So really the preference would be something that can increase the minimum typical speed more than focus just on maximum speed. Presumably that means good signal range and penetration.
Pinephone + dumb phone is a valid option though. The only thing my pinephone struggled with was calls/sms, so the dumb phone handles that.
My choice is to just not have a smartphone. Something like an old Nokia is what I use, CatB40 specifically but the company licensed to make those no longer exists. I hope Cat find someone else and they still make a line of dumb phones not just smartphones but I don’t really expect it any time soon.
If mine dies probably just get a regular dumbphone for like £10. Can’t collect much data if all it’s capable of doing is calls and SMS which I rarely even use.
Surely that is following it? Change the name in American. Leave it the same in English.
Why would all the stuff come out? Never had this issue although also don’t have a hoover like this.
Maybe, but you will win more pub quizzes and it’s better than brainrot content
Could you store a checksum of the backup with an NFT? Think I just threw up a little bit there, but perhaps there is actually a use case for them them. At least it proves the backup remains since it was created regardless of how many copies you have
How are external HDs not a backup? Sure if it’s left attached 24/7 it would also get caught by ransomware potentially but otherwise surely that is what external media is good for?
Most of my data isn’t that important, but have a script that can sync a live copy to several locations over the LAN and create a timestamped compressed folder of it, usually keep a few of the timestamped copies on external media.
Yep, all my GoG games would be installable without internet if I have the installer downloaded, games without DRM bought from the devs directly like Factorio would also work just fine. Loads of games are available outside of steam, some are even on github for free.
The difference is if steam goes down I might not be able to play a few games. If xbox (what is their service?) goes down you can’t play any games.
My first reason for going 4G was general distaste that all the wired providers leave me with. Awful pricing models where they charge less for 4 months then more for 20 and then loads indefinitely kinda thing and I just decided fuck that. I think there is a bit more competition for the 4G side of things too.
I don’t use any one format. No idea what audio formats I have but probably a lot. Never cared, VLC takes them all.
Outages are a thing of the past since I switched to 4G. If you asked me in 2010 if 4G of all things would be better than a wired connection I would never have believed it.
It’s fast enough and never had an outage. Once in the past year I rotated the antenna to point at a different mast because it was being a little slow. I assume cell towers are a higher priority of infrastructure as they serve more people, and as there are multiple I can connect to there is also redundancy.
As bad as the customers I deal with are I am so glad we only work with real companies. The smallest are a few hundred staff. At least 99% of the time they can be professional. The exception so far have been pretty funny though, shame I don’t go on calls with them anymore tbh.
And neither gives a shit about the working class
