I hate the cloud.
Chris is your son. You should start paying attention to him. He’s 29.
Too late, he left home.
that is probably someone who is connecting / pairing your Zigbee bulbs to their network/mesh.
it has nothing to do with the cloud service.
if you are not using Zigbee yourself, they auto join open Zigbee networks after reset or when they are not connected to a Zigbee network, so if the other person is adding a new device he or she owns, the bulbs will also join his network in that process.
unsure if you can switch Zigbee off in the app or not as I have never used the app, so you would have to figure out how to do that yourself or make them join a Zigbee network you own.
hope this helps and hope you get it sorted.
(edit, added line about cloud service)
I’m not intimately familiar with zigbee, but I don’t think that’s what happened. I only have one hue device (TV backlight) and it’s connected to/controlled by the Hue hub.
My home in my Hue account now has zero devices in it.
my hue devices support Bluetooth and Zigbee devices to allow for management through an app or a hue hub.
even if you do not use it, it will be available and active, and it explains your issue. I have had my neighbors lightbulbs added to my Zigbee network before I kicked them out, and I will imagine his cloud service saying about the same as you experienced.
but, I will not try to argue this any further, I just offered a probable reason, as that was what you asked for.
good luck in your investigation 🙂
Huh. Well thanks for the info. I’m out of town so won’t be able to look further for a few days.
It’s just really surprising that the system by default allows passers by to connect and manage your devices. I don’t know my neighbors too well, but I do live next door to a Chris.
breaking my own promise now, but I will try to be a bit more explanatory in my post. (and I hate first letter capitalization after a period, so excuse me for all lowercasing)
look into Zigbee networks and permit / deny join… by default, if your hub in this case allows (permits) devices to join this will happen. there should be a option in the app / hub to permit new devices or detect or something like it. as I do not have the hub / app i cannot say where it is exactly, but there should be one.
also, by default, any Zigbee clients (and also hubs by force) will try to join any open networks if they are not part of any. since there is no way to configure a bulb for instance, to which Zigbee network or should join, it by default joins the first open network it sees and stays there until it is reset or kicked out.
I am guessing your hub connected to a device named Chris yes, and informed you through the app as it is connected to the account you are referring to. this is what you saw in the notification when it entered and when it left by reset or force on the client side.
it has nothing to do with your cloud account, but you probably have a permit join Zigbee network in the hub as i mentioned before.
have a good day, and take a look in your app or hub when you have a chance for that setting.
(edit, btw: there is not much of a security issue here, as the client cannot talk to other devices or force your hub to do anything , so it’s more of an annoyance than anything else, at least until there is some sort of exploit for the Zigbee protocol and the hub, which there is none of as far as I know)
Can I introduce you to my friend zigbee2mqtt?
We have one of those TV backlights that syncs to the video. Don’t think I can open source that.
